Nightmare

My eyes, closed
Hoping to let go of reality
And enter the realm of sleep
To be seduced by a dream

But alas
My last thought is you
You entwined with another
As I watch in complete horror

Watching through this cage
Rattling these bars violently
I cry and scream
Hoping against hope for this to stop

I question myself
“Why me ?
What did I do to you ?
Do I deserve this pain ?”

I wake up breathless
Sweating profusely
Sun shining through the window
Confused and hurt

Now I fear falling asleep
For my subconscious is in control
It has plans of its own
For every night I relive this nightmare
